Dr. Paula Pando

Award-winning leader in higher education

Dr. Paula Pando is a transformative leader in higher education with over 30 years of experience advancing student success, workforce development, and economic mobility. The daughter of Chilean immigrants, she is fluent in Spanish and deeply committed to expanding educational access as a catalyst for individual and community transformation.

  • Since 2018, Dr. Pando has served as the fourth president of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, leading bold initiatives that strengthen student outcomes and regional prosperity. A nationally recognized champion for student-centered leadership, she serves on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Community Colleges and is a two-time Aspen Presidential Fellow, recognized for driving transformational change in higher education.

    Her contributions have earned some of the field’s highest honors, including the Dana Hamel Leadership Award (Virginia’s top community college distinction), the YWCA Outstanding Woman Award, and Virginia Business Magazine’s Women in Leadership Award.

    Beyond higher education, Dr. Pando is an engaged civic leader, serving on multiple boards, including as a Trustee for the Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond and a Board Member for Bon Secours Mercy Health Richmond, guiding initiatives that impact education, philanthropy, and healthcare.

    Dr. Pando holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Rowan University, where she was awarded the Medal of Excellence for Alumni Achievement, an M.A. in Education Administration from Saint Peter’s University, and a B.A. from Stockton University.
