Governor Abigail Spanberger

The Commonwealth of Virginia

Service-Driven Leader Shaping Virginia’s Future

Abigail D. Spanberger, the first woman elected Governor of Virginia, grew up just outside of Richmond, where she learned the value of public service from her parents. A proud product of Virginia public schools, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia.

As Governor, Spanberger is focused on bringing Virginians together, lowering costs for families, strengthening public schools, and keeping communities safe—always putting Virginia first.

She has spent nearly her entire career in public service, beginning with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and later the CIA, before representing Virginia’s 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she won three consecutive terms.

She lives in Henrico County with her husband, Adam, and their three daughters.
